Five victories at the chess championship
Representatives of Lebap region performed very successfully at the chess championship of Turkmenistan held among school teams.
The tournament was organized among chess players under 12 and under 18. The winners earned a place in the world championship.
In the tournament, held with the participation of a total of 100 pupils, Lebap region was represented by teams from secondary schools No. 2, 11, 17, 24, 26, 27, 29, 30 and 41 in Turkmenabat city.
In the tournament among children under 12, pupils from Turkmenabat took all three top places. More precisely, the teams of the city’s secondary schools No. 41, 26 and 2 shared the first three places.
Among the under-18s, too, the team of specialized secondary school No. 41 in Turkmenabat city was unrivalled. In this age category, second place went to pupils of secondary school No. 27 in the regional centre, and third place to pupils of secondary school No. 28 in Baherden district.
Thus, the winners of the competitions for teams made up of pupils under 12 and under 18 earned the right to take part in the world championship for school teams starting on 12 August in Aktau (Republic of Kazakhstan).
