Autumn wheat sowing launched in Lebap region

On 2 September, mass autumn wheat sowing was launched in Lebap region. The date of the sowing season was set by the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers held on 28 August, TDH reports.

In Lebap region, it is planned to sow wheat on 130,000 hectares and harvest 310,000 tonnes of grain. As noted at a meeting held at the regional administration, high-yielding wheat varieties adapted to local soil and climatic conditions, such as “Bagtyyarlyk”, “Berkarar”, “Batko”, “Alemgoshar” and “Sahrayy”, are being used for sowing.

In keeping with a noble tradition, the elders launched the sowing by scattering the first seeds onto the soil with the words “May every grain multiply a thousandfold!” The sowing was then handed over to the machine operators. The fields were ploughed and fertilised in advance for the season. High-quality seeds and agricultural machinery were also fully prepared. To mark the start of sowing, practical workshops on compliance with agrotechnical norms were held in the region. As noted, the use of modern methods and best practices in tending the wheat crop will help farmers to complete sowing within the set deadlines.

Exhibitions of agro-industrial products and machinery and concert programmes by cultural workers were also organised to mark the occasion.
