Turkmen Alabay dogs: our cultural treasure
The Alabay is an integral part of the ancient history and rich cultural heritage of the Turkmen people. Over the centuries, the Alabay has occupied an important place in the life of our people as a symbol of loyalty, courage and bravery. The inscription of the "Art of breeding Turkmen Alabay dogs" on UNESCO's List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity was a clear expression of the international recognition of our national cultural values.
For millennia, the Turkmen Alabay has served as a reliable guardian in the nomadic, pastoral and household life of the Turkmen people. Its powerful build, intelligence and loyalty to its owner distinguish the Alabay from other dog breeds.
This momentous event is a clear result of the state policy of Turkmenistan aimed at preserving national values and passing them on to future generations, and it signifies the recognition by the international community of our people's centuries-old traditions, national worldview and principles of living in harmony with nature. The traditions associated with the Alabay, the principles of its training, and the place it occupies in folk art and folklore were recognised by UNESCO as a special value.
The inscription of the "Art of breeding Turkmen Alabay dogs" on UNESCO's List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity also has a positive impact on the development of international cultural cooperation. This initiative serves to develop cultural dialogue between peoples, strengthen mutual understanding and demonstrate the diversity of the world's cultural heritage.
This event is clear proof of the Turkmen people's respect for their roots and their commitment to preserving their cultural heritage.
