Youth football tournament held in Turkmenabat
A football tournament among youngsters born in 2008–2009 was held at the sports complex of Turkmenabat. The tournament, organised to mark the pupils' summer holiday season, was attended by two teams each from Ashgabat city and Mary region, four from Lebap region and one from Dashoguz.
The matches between the teams were heated. Based on the results of the hard-fought group stage, in the semi-finals Turkmenabat's "Altyn yyldyz" team met Dashoguz's "Kopetdag" team, while the regional centre's "Nesil" team met the "Galkynysh" team of Danew district. Following these matches, which ended 1:3 and 4:0 respectively, the players of the "Nesil" and "Kopetdag" teams reached the final. In the final, the youngsters of our region beat the Dashoguz footballers 6:0 and took first place.
Although the players of Turkmenabat's "Altyn yyldyz", who took third place in the tournament, fell behind on points, it should be emphasised that the team consisted of the youngest athletes. Namely, boys born in 2010 — Rahman Rustemov, Merdan Dovranov, Aydemir Achilov and Nazar Vepayev — stood out as the best players of the tournament. The team was prepared for the tournament by coach Halmuhammet Gurbanov.
