Nationwide tree-planting ceremony held in the country
On 4 November 2023, the autumn tree-planting ceremony was held in Lebap region at a high organisational level. The Hakim of Lebap region Shohrat Amangeldiyev, heads of institutions and organisations of Lebap region and residents of the region took part in the nationwide tree-planting event. The aim of today's nationwide tree-planting ceremony is to plant 3 million saplings of fruit, shade and shrub trees throughout Turkmenistan. Today's event is being held in accordance with the National Strategy of Turkmenistan on Climate Change with the aim of increasing forest belts in the country. This nationwide movement is in harmony with the goals of Turkmenistan's environmental diplomacy and is aimed at implementing Sustainable Development Goal 15, defined as “Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss”. At present, a comprehensive programme is being implemented in the country to create favourable environmental conditions, manage forests sustainably and preserve their biodiversity. The national legislative framework in this area is being further improved and international cooperation is being actively developed.
